As part of the lead up to Advent readings, we're reading the final prophets before God speaking to Israel appears to have gone dark for several hundred years. We are now in the next to the last prophet before Jesus' birth, Zechariah. The Book of Zechariah was written between 520 and 480 BC.
Check out the video below.
Today's readings correspond to about the 3:15 mark through about 3:30.
Sixth Vision: Flying Scroll
5:1 I looked up again and saw a flying scroll. 2 “What do you see?” he asked me.
5:1 I looked up again and saw a flying scroll. 2 “What do you see?” he asked me.
“I see a flying scroll,” I replied, “thirty feet[Lit 20 cubits] long and fifteen feet[Lit 10 cubits] wide.”
3 Then he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land, for everyone who is a thief, contrary to what is written on one side, has gone unpunished,[Or side, will be removed] and everyone who swears falsely, contrary to what is written on the other side, has gone unpunished. 4 I will send it out,”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies—“and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by my name. It will stay inside his house and destroy it along with its timbers and stones.”
